The Stewardship Program
Historic New England protects more than 70 privately-owned historic properties located across New England. We actively seek to protect all types of historic New England buildings in perpetuity.
Through the use of a legal mechanism known as a Preservation Restriction, which is created through the collaborative efforts of concerned property owners and Historic New England staff, significant architectural features and landscapes are protected against insensitive alteration or neglect. The restrictions are monitored through annual visits by our staff, who also help owners plan economical long-term maintenance. Please see our Stewardship page for more details.
Historic Homeowner Membership
Historic New England is committed to helping you as a homeowner care for and conserve your historic house. As the oldest, largest, and most comprehensive regional preservation organization in the country, Historic New England offers access to its legacy of stewardship and preservation excellence through the Historic Homeowner membership category.
Historic Homeowner membership supports you and your old house and the everyday needs, concerns, and problems you encounter as the owner of an old house, whether that house was built in 1750 or 1950. This specialized membership category provides individualized access to Historic New England's Historic Preservation staff for evaluation, consultation, and referrals on a range of issues confronting older houses.
